NaNoWriMo Week 2 & 3

Hello reader, my dear friend, I know it;s been a while but let me update you.

Jumping straight in with my word count, I’m currently at 17,248 words which is further behind than I’d like to be at this point in the month, but at least I haven’t quit!  The last fortnight has been jam packed with distractions with my shop and packing orders, so I pretty much threw my schedule out, which has obviously left me at a loss.

When I do sit down to write however the book is pretty much writing itself now, the flow of dialogue between my characters is improving, and I feel like I’m living with them more than when I first started. I have even named all of my characters, woop!

Would you like a little sneak peak? Well here you go:

‘Scarlett sat next to Arrow and pulled a small notepad and pencil from her back pocket.  She flipped open the notepad and started to write.  The letters didn’t make any sense to begin with, it was just erratic shapes and scribbles, and then as her hand moved faster and letters started to form.  Arrow felt a heavy weight across their forehead as they watched Scarlett’s hand intently. “Scribing helps. Jenny won’t.” Scarlett whispered, her fingerless gloved hand scribbled on the page as her wrist moved erratically.’

I certainly still feel like a novice, but I’m thoroughly enjoying my writing process. I think being part of the local England Discord Server for NaNoWriMo has helped a lot.  There are some impressive writers on there and several have already hit 50k, and although I’m a bit of a lurker there I am joining in some, and taking part of the Sharks squad, so every word matters as much to my team as it does to me.

Will I finish the 50,000 words? I hope so.  I’ve written a lot today, and am hoping to finish more later tonight, so over the next few days I should have caught up to my daily word count target. I’d like to hit it, even if the writing rushed, because at least then I can have something I can use to edit or start from to finally achieve my dream of publishing my first novel.

Next time will likely be at the finish line, so wish me luck!
