Introducing Writing Blog & NaNoWriMo
Hello and welcome to my writing blog. An intimate insight into my creative writing experiences.
If you’re wondering why I’m separating my writing from my shop blog, that’s because they’re not always going to be written at the same time. Especially as I’m a novice writer, only previously writing blogs and short stories for myself in the past, and although I’ve enjoyed writing since I was a child, as with a lot of my creative work, it’s been over a decade since I’ve taken my writing seriously. So as it’s something new, I’m keeping it separate from the shop blog which is more focused on my work as an artist, maker and my shop.
NaNoWriMo
This November I‘ve signed up to the monthly writing challenge NaNoWriMo to help me kick off.
National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with a first draft. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists.
You can read more about it here.
My daily goal is to write 1,800 words throughout the month of November, which will (hopefully) leave me with a large first draft of my novel. Whether it’s any good on not will of course be down to my skills as a writer, but also some input from you the readers, if there are any!
I don’t plan on exposing the full extent of the novel, as eventually if it is any good I’d love for you to read it, but I will be openly discussing how I’m finding the challenge, questions around storyline and character development, plus any issues I stumble upon, all right here in this blog.
Working title for this project is Broken, a queer gothic horror novel based in England.
I’ll introduce you to my first project in my next blog post kicking off NaNoWriMo on 1st November 2023, but for now, I hope you’re as excited as I am to begin this new journey with me!
If you’re already signed up to my newsletter you’ll receive a link to my latest blog posts for here and the shop blog there once a month.
